About the Album#
The debut record from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds announced a restless, confrontational intelligence at work. Assembled from the ruins of The Birthday Party in Berlin and London in 1984, From Her to Eternity strips rock music down to raw nerves: Leonard Cohen’s “Avalanche” is deconstructed into a churning dirge, while the title track — its name a dark twist on the film From Here to Eternity — builds to a controlled frenzy of desire and dread.
Mick Harvey and Barry Adamson anchor the arrangements while Cave’s vocals inhabit every corner of the record’s murky sonic space. It remains one of the most uncompromising debut albums in post-punk, a document of a band inventing its own language from the very first note.
The tracklist here reflects the 2009 remastered seven-track edition of the album. Show #1 featured the title track.
