Secret Messages catches Electric Light Orchestra at a turning point: still unmistakably melodic and cinematic, but with a leaner, more electronic edge than the grand symphonic sweep of their 1970s peak.
Within the band’s catalogue it stands as a bridge between the expansive ambition of earlier records and the tighter pop focus of their mid-1980s singles. “Four Little Diamonds”, as heard in Show #1, sits right at that intersection — hook-heavy, polished and full of Jeff Lynne’s studio craft.
