About The Cult

The Cult grew from the post-punk world around Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, evolving from the darker atmosphere of Death Cult into a band capable of combining gothic texture with increasingly direct rock power. Duffy’s ringing guitar and Astbury’s commanding voice became the constants as the group’s sound expanded.

Dreamtime and Love established their early identity through songs such as “Spiritwalker” and “She Sells Sanctuary”; Electric and Sonic Temple pushed toward harder, widescreen rock without losing that sense of drama. Their catalogue has continued through reunions and later records including Under the Midnight Sun.
