About Squeeze

Squeeze are an English band formed in Deptford, south-east London, in 1974, built around the songwriting partnership of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. Difford’s observational, street-level lyrics and Tilbrook’s melodic instincts produced a string of sharply crafted new wave singles: “Take Me I’m Yours”, “Cool for Cats”, “Up the Junction”, “Another Nail in My Heart” and “Tempted” placed them among the most distinctive British pop acts of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

After a hiatus, the band returned with Babylon and On in 1987 and continued recording through the 1990s, with Some Fantastic Place (1993) marking a reflective, melodically rich chapter in their catalogue. Difford and Tilbrook have reconvened Squeeze periodically in the decades since, maintaining a reputation built on craft, wit and an ear for the particular detail that makes a lyric linger.
