About Del Shannon
Del Shannon was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist from Michigan whose country influences fed into an urgent rock ’n’ roll style. His 1961 breakthrough “Runaway” paired a soaring falsetto with Max Crook’s Musitron keyboard, and he followed it with hit singles including “Hats Off to Larry”, “Little Town Flirt” and “Keep Searchin’”.

As the decade moved on, Shannon kept widening his palette: he paid direct tribute to his roots on Del Shannon Sings Hank Williams, explored psychedelic pop textures on The Further Adventures of Charles Westover, and took “Handy Man” back into the charts with his own dramatic phrasing. Work as a producer for Brian Hyland, plus later collaborations with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, rounded out a catalogue that bridges early rock ’n’ roll, studio experimentation and melodic guitar pop.
