About Bauhaus
Bauhaus formed in Northampton in 1978 with Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins. Their spacious, abrasive post-punk drew on dub, glam, funk and art-school theatre; the 1979 single “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” became an enduring gothic touchstone. Albums including In the Flat Field and Mask pushed that language in different directions, while their charged cover of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” brought it to a wider audience. The group first split in 1983 and later reunited for several distinct periods.
